We value the school’s culture of inclusion and equal opportunity within which all children, parents, staff and the wider community feel a sense of belonging and are able to be themselves and thrive. Hornsby House is a kind and nurturing environment and we celebrate our similarities and differences in many ways.

It is important that our curriculum reflects our student body in texts, resources and across our displays, all of which adds a sense of belonging for everyone.  This allows us to explore cultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year, religious events like Easter, Diwali, Ramadan and Eid, and reintroduce events into our history teaching that has previously been omitted.

Staff meet weekly before school on a Wednesday morning to discuss and debate matters relating to diversity and inclusion, and families and visiting speakers are invited into our assemblies to share thoughts with the children and staff on this important part of being a citizen within our global city.

Above all, diversity, equity and inclusion must permeate all that we do at Hornsby House and where we may not be truly representative of the city in which we live, we have a real responsibility to teach our children what it means to live in such a culturally vibrant and diverse city as ours.
