Edward Rees
Headmaster
edward.rees@hornsbyhouse.org.ukEdward Rees joined Hornsby House as Headmaster in September 2012.
He was educated at Charterhouse and Hatfield College, Durham, where he graduated with a BA(Hons) in Education, specialising in Geography. Between 1996 and 2012, he fulfilled a wide range of roles at Dulwich College, including leading the Junior School as Acting Head during an ISI Inspection.
He is himself a qualified and experienced inspector of Independent Schools and was a governor of a local co-educational preparatory school prior to joining Hornsby House.
He is married with two young children and is a keen sportsman in his spare time and a member of the MCC.

Alistair Gerry
Deputy Head, Pastoral
alistair.gerry@hornsbyhouse.org.ukAfter completing a Bachelor of Science in Manchester, Alistair spent eighteen months travelling in South America, where he learned to speak both Spanish and Portuguese.
He is qualified to teach all ages having first gained a PGCE in Further Education at the University of Greenwich, before a six-year stint living in Australia, where he was awarded a Diploma in Primary Education at La Trobe University, Melbourne. For the last fourteen years he has taught throughout Primary Schools from Nursery to Year 6 and joined the Hornsby House team in 2002. His passions include cycling, music and travelling.
Mark Peters
Deputy Head, External Relations
mark.peters@hornsbyhouse.org.ukMark was educated at Dulwich College before graduating from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) degree in Geography.
He joined Hornsby House in 2004 as Head of Boys’ Games and has since enjoyed a variety of roles including Head of Geography, Head of Scott House and Director of Sport. Mark is now enjoying the challenges of his new role as Deputy Head.
Gabrielle Bunning
Bursar
gabrielle.bunning@hornsbyhouse.org.ukGabrielle Bunning spent the initial years of her working life studying to be an accountant and worked in a range of senior finance roles before taking a career break whilst her children were young.
On her return to work, she led the finance team at an STM Publisher for several years, before joining Hornsby House School as Bursar and Clerk to the Governors in December 2009. Gabrielle has a wealth of financial, operations and management experience and is passionate about ensuring that Hornsby House has the necessary resources to continue its development as a successful and forward thinking school.
Amy Gemmell
Head of Lower School
amy.gemmell@hornsbyhouse.org.ukAmy graduated with a BA (Hons) in Education with Qualified Teacher Status from Durham University in 2000. After two years teaching Reception in New Zealand and London, Amy joined Hornsby House in 2002 as a Reception class teacher where she spent four years before gaining her Hornsby Diploma in teaching children with Dyslexia and moved to Year 2, becoming Head of Lower School. Amy became part time Lower School SENDCo after the birth of her first child. In 2016 she spent two years teaching and living in Madrid before she, and her by now three children, returned to Hornsby House in September 2018. Amy is currently studying towards an MA in Early Childhood Education.
Sam King
Deputy Head, Academic
samantha.king@hornsbyhouse.org.ukLondon born and bred, Samantha was educated at Rosemead and JAGS and joined Hornsby in 2008, after having achieved a MA in Philosophy from the University of St Andrews and a GTC from the Institute of Education.
She has taught across every year group from Reception to Year 6 and her previous positions of responsibility include Head of Years 1, and Years 3 & 4, Head of Gifted and Talented, DT, computing and Assistant Head (Academic). Samantha is currently a governor at a local school in Surrey, where she lives with her partner, two children, two cats and lots of fish. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, puzzles and baking.
